Recently, I discovered the joys of
Godtube.com and
YouTube.com.
On
Youtube.com, my husband and I laughed at Tim Conway as the dentist in the old skit performed with Harvey Corman on the Carol Burnett Show. I laughed until tears started rolling as Harvey almost fell out of the dentist seat while trying to keep a straight face while Tim kept poking himself in the hand, arm, leg, forehead with Novacaine. I had forgotten how funny that sketch was.
I watched, for the first time, an old clip of Red Skelton explaining the significance of the Pledge of Allegiance, as his teacher explained it to all the students in Red’s class. I have that bookmarked for when I need my patriotic fix and feel that things are getting too bad in the country. This lifts me up.
Then I watched Lily Tomlin from Laugh-In as the telephone operator, saying “One Ringy-Dingy, Two Ringy-Dingy,” calling a gentleman who was disputing his telephone bill.
I discovered a rendition of Andy Griffith explaining his version of what his idea of what the game of football is back in, maybe, the 1940s. This is something that I haven’t heard since I listened to an old 45 record made by Andy that I got from my parents. Andy’s story is about how a bunch of men run with a pumpkin across a cow pasture ”without knocking each other down or stepping on something.”
On
GodTube.com I watched a young couple as they celebrated the 99 days of their newborn son’s life. Young Evan was born with only one lung, a whole in his heart and Edward’s Syndrome. I listened as his father recorded a diary, filled with love, of little Evan’s life. In the cemetery, Evan’s parents, family and friends released 99 balloons to celebrate his life and what he meant to them. This is truly a story of courage, love and faith.
At this time of Easter, maybe everyone should listen to Blair Wingo on GodTube giving poem, “Let Me Reintroduce The Christ.” This is such a good poem that I listen to it quite often. In fact, she gives it so fast that I had to listen to it several times to be sure to not miss anything. This poem makes me delve deeper into my faith.
One fun video to watch is the video of the Horrible Babysitter. This is a girl that is babysitting for a couple for the first time. They go out on their date night, leaving her with the baby and the toddler.
During the time they are gone, she totally ignores the kids, constantly talking on the phone to her friends. Yet as soon as the parents pull up in the driveway, she is standing at the door to welcome them holding the baby and with the toddler standing by her side. Unknown to her, though, they had a video camera running and pull her to sit down to watch the video of their children’s first babysitting experience. It is very funny!
There is also the video of the Mother Panda at a zoo sitting with her little baby panda on the floor by her. When the baby gives a huge sneeze for such a little mite, the mother jumps just like a human would jump at an unexpected noise. It is worth seeing several times.
The video I shared with my co-workers from GodTube was “How to Spot a Blonde Antelope.” Apparently someone on safari took a video of an antelope running across the African plain, kicking up dust as it goes, suddenly for no apparent reason, it veers only to run right into the only tree on the plain and knock itself out.
This is funny enough to watch, but what makes it hilarious is that resting in the shade of the tree are a couple of lions. They look at the comatose antelope in amazement.
I have found that, through the magic of the Internet, I can find humor and tears, old skits and new ones, much of it interesting, if chosen carefully.
What a great age we live in.
